House of Celebration
The heart of Sydney lies within its exquisite waterways. The public utilisation of the waters edge is a opportunity to invigorate and celebrate the place we all call home. The “House of Celebration” serves as a location for ceremonies and celebrations within our diverse multi-cultural society. A building which is secular but also seeks to facilitate religious and cultural ceremonies. A space for both the public and private gatherings.
Located in Davidson Park, on the banks leading into Middle Harbour. The buildings simplicity champions its surroundings. The main hall opens up with a series of hydraulic doors which frame the landscape and establishing softer boundaries between whats public and private. The water facing side opens on a “verandah” which dissolves the edge between land and water and provides a location for a deeper ethereal experience of the waterway regardless of swimming ability.
